If there is a need to change in the already typed text some of the terms repeatedly mentioned in it, the name of something or another word repeated many times, there is no need to do it “manually”. It is difficult to find a text editor that would not be able to independently find all occurrences in the text of a word, a combination of characters or a phrase, and replace them all with the set of letters that you specify. The Microsoft Word word processor is no exception.

Instructions

Step 1

Start your word processor and load the document you want to replace into it. The standard dialog for searching and opening a file can be accessed through the Word menu or by simultaneously pressing the CTRL and O keys (Russian letter Щ).

Step 2

Copy the word, part of a word, or phrase that you want to replace in the text of the loaded document. Of course, it will be possible to enter the desired text from the keyboard, but when copying, the probability of making a mistake is significantly reduced.

Step 3

Open the Find and Replace dialog. In the version of Microsoft Word 2007, to do this, in the menu, click on the "Replace" button in the "Edit" group of commands on the "Home" tab. In earlier versions, you need to open the section "Editing" in the menu and select the item "Replace". These actions in all versions can be overridden by pressing the CTRL + H keyboard shortcut.

Step 4

Paste the copied word you want to replace into the Find box. In the "Replace with" field, type the replacement word and click the "Replace All" button. The word processor will make any necessary replacements and display a message with a report on the number of words corrected.

Step 5

Use wildcards to specify a "rough" search. For example, if you need to replace all the words "left" and "right" found in the text with the word "up", then in the "Find" field you can enter "in * in", and in the "Replace with" field - "up". In this case, a checkmark should be set in the "Wildcards" checkbox, which is located on the additional panel of the search and replace dialog. This panel appears after clicking on the "More" button. In addition to the asterisk, you can use other characters - for example, the wildcard question mark is similar in function to the asterisk, but can only replace one letter, while the asterisk is an indefinite number of letters.
