In a text editor Microsoft Word, it is very easy to remove spaces between the words of a document when using the find and replace function. However, there are a few things to watch out for.

Instructions

Step 1

If you need to remove absolutely all spaces between words in the document, then you should use the search and replace function. Open the "Home" tab of the text editor and click the "Replace" button in the rightmost group of commands ("Edit"). You can launch the Find and Replace dialog box in a different way - use the hotkeys assigned to this function CTRL + H.

Step 2

Click the text box next to Find and press the Spacebar. Do not enter anything in the "Replace with" field.

Step 3

Click the Replace All button. The text editor will eliminate spaces in the document and display a message about the total number of replacements made.

Step 4

Microsoft Word has a special character that appears in a document as a very long space - about four times wider than usual. It is inserted into the text using a table of special characters and cannot be destroyed in the manner described in the previous steps.

Step 5

If your document contains spaces of this kind, then you need to find at least one of them, select and copy. This is easier to do if you enable the display of non-printable characters: the corresponding button has been placed on the "Home" tab in the "Paragraph" group. Or you can turn it on simply by pressing the CTRL + asterisk (*) key combination.

Step 6

Open the Find and Replace dialog box as described in the first step (CTRL + H) and paste the copied long space into the Find field. You should still not enter anything in the Replace With field.

Step 7

Click the Replace All button and Word will remove any long spaces of this kind in your document.

Step 8

Sometimes too long spaces between words are a consequence of the justification given to all or part of the text "in width". This problem can be solved without removing spaces - just select all the text (CTRL + A) or only the necessary part of it and press the key combination CTRL + L. In this way, you will set the usual text alignment (to the left).
