Step 1
There are at least four ways to eliminate a virus from an infected computer. If you already have an antivirus installed, at the slightest hint of the activity of a malicious program, urgently update its databases. After updating, run a full scan of the entire computer. Analyze the identified threats and remove the detected viruses with the appropriate command.
Step 2
If you do not have an antivirus installed, but you have noticed traces of the presence of third-party malware in the system, download and run free mini-utilities to scan and disinfect your computer. For example, Dr. Web's CureIt or COMODO Cleaning Essentials. They identify and remove many types of viruses. If you chose the CureIt utility, let it run in maximum lockdown mode to prevent any changes to the files.

The next option to eliminate viruses is the simplest, but it requires some preparation. Choose in advance for yourself and burn on a CD the distribution kit of any LiveCD, among the built-in programs of which there are antiviruses. Keep this disc close at hand. Prioritize boot from CD-ROM in BIOS. After booting from the LiveCD, run a virus scan of all disks installed in the system. This will allow you to detect and eliminate viruses that might not have been "visible" when working in a running Windows.

The most radical option for treating viruses is a complete hard disk formatting, which can be done using the same LiveCD. However, this method is not suitable if you need to extract some valuable information from the disk.
Step 5
However, the best and safest way to eliminate viruses is to carry out prophylaxis on your computer in order to prevent malware from entering the system. To do this, you need to install 2 programs in advance: antivirus in combination with a firewall (firewall), configuring them to work together. The anti-virus will scan files for suspicious codes in the usual background mode, but if a fresh virus is found, about which there is no entry in the databases, it will not be tracked. In this case, the firewall will be able to block its activity, preventing it from communicating with the server over the Internet, or preventing it from changing executable files and programs. This combination of programs is the most reliable for home use and provides sufficient security on the Internet.
