External hard drives have long been included in the list of items of everyday use when using a computer. If a hard drive breaks down, it is not recommended to repair it at home, in most cases it ends with a breakdown of the device.
Necessary
- - wide flat screwdriver;
- - a plastic card.
Instructions
Step 1
Examine the case of your removable hard drive for any fasteners. They can also be hidden with special plugs so as not to spoil the appearance of the device. Unscrew them. If the case of your hard drive is fastened using the usual latches, find their location, push on both sides and pry off with a flat screwdriver or a plastic card, depending on the density of the material from which it is made.
Step 2
If the hard drive casing is glued at the edges, place a flathead screwdriver on the seam of the hard drive casing and lightly hit the handle. After that, pry open the case with a plastic card and slide it around the perimeter of the entire hard drive. It is best not to do this, as you can easily damage the internal components of the device.
Step 3
If the disk case is made without joints, and you cannot find the place where its walls join, take a close look at the side walls of the disk, most likely, the fasteners are under special plugs. After you unscrew all the screws holding the drive in the case, gently push it out from one side.
Step 4
Disconnect the card from the drive by gently pulling it towards you. Make sure they are not connected with the fixing bolts beforehand. Turn off the LEDs that indicate disk activity. Further disassembly of the hard drive is not recommended, as this requires special conditions.
Step 5
Do not disassemble it yourself, even if you have special skills in working with these devices, do not loosen the screws on the cover of the disk device in order to prevent foreign objects or even dust from entering it. In the event of a malfunction, immediately take it to the service center.
