All operating system settings are accessed through the registry. The registry is often compared to a large database. In order to prevent enemies from reaching such important objects, it is recommended to restrict user access to this tool.

Step 1
Access restriction for users is carried out by disabling the option to freely edit registry files. It is worth noting that undoing the editing of registry files applies to all users except the administrator. The safest way is to edit the settings in the Group Policy snap-in.

This applet can be launched through the "Control Panel" in the "Start" menu. After launching it, go to the "User Configuration" branch, open the "Administrative Templates" section and click on the "System" line. In the right part, find the parameter "Make the registry editing tools unavailable", click on it with the mouse, then on the button "Show properties window" on the toolbar.
Step 3
In the new window, check the box next to the "Enabled" item and press the Enter key or the OK button. To set the prohibition of launching other system programs, do the same in relation to the "Run only allowed applications for Windows" item.
Step 4
A more dangerous way is to edit the registry. Its launch is carried out through the "Run" applet after entering the regedit command. Before changing the operating system database, do not forget to create a backup copy (File menu, Export item).
Step 5
Then open the HKEY_CURRENT_USER branch on the left side of the program window and expand the following folders one by one: Software, Microsoft, Windows, CurrentVersion, Policies, System. Inside the System folder, create a new DWORD parameter, DisableRegistryTools. Double click on it and enter the new value "1" instead of "0" (default).
Step 6
Close the registry editor. Restart your computer and log in with a different account. Verify that you can run Registry Editor by pressing Win + R, then type regedit and click OK.
