Disabling USB devices in the Windows registry serves the purpose of protecting the information stored on your computer. In some cases, it is worth abandoning the use of external hard drives or flash drives so that later you do not have to correct the consequences of unwanted connections.
Instructions
Step 1
The procedure for disconnecting USB devices differs depending on whether or not a connection has been made to such devices in the system. If USB drives have already been used on the computer, you will need to open the main system menu by clicking the "Start" button and go to the "Run" dialog. Type regedit in the "Open" line and confirm the launch of the Registry Editor utility by clicking the OK button.
Step 2
Open the branch HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicrsUSBStor and expand the Start parameter with a double click. Type 4 in the "Value" line and apply the checkbox in the "Hexadecimal" field. Confirm saving of the changes made by clicking OK, and exit the editor utility. Reboot the system to apply the changes.
Step 3
If the USB device was not installed, you will need to use a different procedure. Return to the main Start menu and go to All Programs. Expand the Accessories link and launch the Windows Explorer application. Open a folder named% SystemRoot% Inf.
Step 4
Call the context menu of the Usbstor.pnf file by clicking the right mouse button and select the "Properties" item. Select the Security tab of the dialog box that opens and specify the users who need to be prohibited from using USB storage in the Groups and Users directory. Apply the check box in the "Deny" line of the "Permissions" directory.
Step 5
After that, specify the SYSTEM account in the directory of groups and users and apply the checkbox in the "Deny" line of the "Full Control" section in the "Permissions" group. Confirm saving of the changes made by clicking OK.
Step 6
Repeat the same steps for the Usb.stor.inf file and save your changes. Reboot your system to apply them.
