To insert and change formulas in the word processor Microsoft Office Word, a special add-in is used - the formula editor. In versions of Word 2007 and Word 2010, it is part of the base program and is installed by default with the installation of the base program. To use it in earlier versions, some preliminary manipulations are required.

Instructions
Step 1
If you are using Microsoft Office Word 2003 and the formula editor was not installed before, then do it now. After installation, it is better to create an additional item in the word processor menu to make the formula editor easier to access. To do this, select the "Settings" item by opening the "Tools" section in the Word menu.
Step 2
Click the Commands tab and select Insert from the Categories list. In the right pane of the window that opens, find the "Formula Editor" item and drag it with the left mouse button to the appropriate place in the text editor menu.
Step 3
If you need to change a formula already inserted into a text document, just click it with the mouse cursor and Word will automatically turn on the formula editor. If you are using Microsoft Office Word 2007, another tab will be added to the menu - "Design", located under the "Formula Editor" label. By clicking on this new tab, you can start changing the formula.
Step 4
If you need to create a new formula, then first place the cursor in the desired place in the text document. Then go to the "Insert" tab in the word processor menu and click the "Formula" button, which is located in the "Symbols" group of commands - on the far right in this menu section. This will launch the formula editor. But you can not start creating a formula from scratch, but click not the "Formula" button itself, but a separate section with a checkmark at its right edge. Then a list with a set of preset formulas will drop out of the button, from which you can choose one similar to the one you need to enter. Select it, and after that the editor will also turn on, but in this case you will only need to change the already existing template formula as needed.
