Modern operating systems have a fairly good level of protection. In addition, many people prefer to use additional programs to prevent unwanted connections to the computer.

Instructions
Step 1
To configure full-fledged computer protection, it is recommended to use several utilities at once. Start by configuring your firewall settings. Open Control Panel and select the "System and Security" menu. Go to Windows Firewall and select the Turn Firewall On / Off menu. Click the Use Recommended Settings button.
Step 2
Go to the Network and Sharing Center and select the "Change advanced settings" menu. Click on the name of the currently used profile and find the "Network Discovery" submenu. Activate Disable Network Discovery. Activate the following parameters of the computer in the network in the same way:
- Disable file and printer sharing;
- Disable folder sharing;
- Enable password protected sharing.
Step 3
Click the Save Changes button and restart your computer. Install an antivirus program. If it includes network traffic control features, do not disable it. Download and install additional firewall. We recommend using the Outpost Firewall utility.
Step 4
When you run this utility for the first time, select "7-day training mode". During the next week, the program will remember all created rules. Read all pop-up messages carefully before allowing or disconnecting a connection to a specific resource.
Step 5
Try not to create public folders unless absolutely necessary. If you need to perform this action, then select the "Specific users" mode. Specify the names of accounts that are allowed access to the selected folder. Remember that the presence of shared network folders is a serious threat to the security of your computer.
