The process of downloading and installing the mobile operating system Apple iOS (iPhone OS - formerly) is extremely simple and automated as much as possible. To upload iOS to an Apple device - iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, you need a firmware file, iTunes program, a USB cable and the device itself.
Instructions
Step 1
You can download iTunes from the official Apple website:

Press the button "Free download" and after reloading the page the button "Download". After downloading iTunes, install it on your computer like any other program for Windows or Mac.
Step 2
Then download the required iOS firmware. Currently, there are 5 generations of firmware, however, 1, 2 and 3 (2007-2009) generations are no longer supported, and 4 generations (2010) are supported by software manufacturers, but not updated. 5th generation iOS (2011) is the most powerful and functional.
The iOS distribution is a compressed IPSW file. A list of links to official firmware for all Apple devices can be found on the forum:

Step 3
Once you've downloaded the IPSW distribution for your device, launch iTunes and connect your device to your computer via a USB cable. Pre-charge the battery of the device to at least 70%. As soon as the device is recognized by iTunes, select it in the left column of the utility and find the Update button in the Version block of the main program window. Hold down the Shift key on the keyboard and left-click on the "Update" button. In the Explorer window, select the IPSW firmware you want to update to by double clicking on it.
The mobile iOS update on your iPad or iPhone will start immediately. Do not disconnect the cable from the device or close iTunes until the operating system update is complete. As soon as the new iOS is uploaded to the device's memory, iTunes will inform you about the successful completion of the software update.
