In some cases, you need to transfer important files from one computer to another. The data to be transferred can be small or large. Files larger than 4 Gb are quite problematic to transfer. In this case, you can use programs that split the portable directories and the files they contain into several parts.

Instructions

Step 1

The most ideal option for splitting files into parts is the WinRar program. If you do not have such a utility available, you can use the file manager Total Commander. This program is considered shareware. When you run an unregistered copy of this utility, the message "Press the # button …" appears on the screen. After clicking on the requested button, this window will disappear.

Step 2

If you are going to transfer large files, make sure there is enough free space on your hard disk to split them into pieces. You can check the availability of free disk space using the standard "Explorer" or by means of Total Commander.

Step 3

Right-click on your hard drive and select Properties. In the window that opens, go to the "General" tab, in the "Capacity" block, view the value of the "Free" field. If this value is lower than the current size of all files that you want to transfer, you should perform Disk Cleanup or transfer the files you create to another partition on your hard drive.

Step 4

In the main window of the program, open the required directory and select the files or folders that require archiving. Click the top menu "Files" and select "Split File".

Step 5

In the window that opens, specify the directory where you want to save the divided archives, as well as the size of each part, then click the "OK" button.

Step 6

After the operation of splitting the file is completed, click the "OK" button in the window with a message about the successful completion of the procedure. In the directory you specified, you will find several files that look like this: File.001, File.002, etc. The last file will be File.crc, which stores the hash of all parts of the archive.

Step 7

If the newly created parts of the archive end up in the same folder as your original version of the file (s), rename it so that the unpacked file does not replace the older version. Then highlight File.001 and click the Files menu and select Collect Files.

Step 8

In the window that opens, double-click the "OK" button - the file assembly operation is completed.
