In the operation of the operating system, there is a constant need to create temporary files. They are needed when installing software, cleaning old programs, just in the normal functioning of the OS. However, sometimes it becomes necessary to find information in such files.
Tmp files - from the English "temporary" - "temporary" are needed for the normal operation of the operating system. They are usually simply removed when they are no longer needed. But in some cases it is useful to see what they have "inside" and, possibly, save valuable information.
Open temporary files
There is nothing difficult about opening a temporary file. Of course, cracking masters can use fancy viewers in hexadecimal format, but in reality this is not required. It is enough to take:
The usual "Notepad". It can be used to open many files with incomprehensible extensions. There are two ways to do this. In the first case, you need to double-click on the file itself, and then select "Notepad" from the offered menu. In the second case, you must first start "Notepad", and then open the desired file in it.
HEX editor. This is a tool for "cool" hackers who can read the code, make their own edits, make changes. Sometimes this is required, but for ordinary mortals it is usually useless. Therefore, this option is not suitable for everyone.
But if you don't have Notepad or hacking programs at hand, any text editor like WordPad or Word will do. Another question, if you have opened such a temporary file, what to do with it next.
Why open temporary files
This is done for one simple reason - the preservation of information. The fact is that the file name before the extension or in its code, in the first characters, may contain indications of which program can open it.
For example, if you worked with any document in Word or Excel and named it "The Devil on the Little Ponds.doc", the temporary file can be named in a similar way. Or it itself may contain a similar string.
Imagine that while working on a document, the lights were turned off, and it simply disappeared from the working folder. Then you need to go to the Temp folder and, it is possible, it will be there. Then it is enough to change the extension and continue working. Information saved!
Manual removal
It so happens that temporary files are not automatically deleted. Then you need to do it manually. First, make sure that these are temporary files and that you will not need them in the future. If you are completely sure of this, then you can move them to the "Trash" with further clearing of the latter.
But this method sometimes works too long. Therefore, you can put on the system one of the many programs for automatic cleaning of unnecessary "garbage". For example, it could be CleanIt or 4Diskclean.
