Instructions
Step 1
Open the image on which you want to draw a tear in Adobe Photoshop. To do this, select the "File" and "Open …" items in the menu, or press "Ctrl + O". In the file selection dialog, specify the directory where the graphic file is located. Highlight the file in the list. Click the "Open" button.
Step 2
Set a convenient scale for viewing and editing the image. On the toolbar, click on the "Zoom Tool" button, or press the "Z" key. Using the mouse cursor, while holding the left button, select the area in which editing will be performed.
Step 3
Create a new layer. Select "Layer", "New", "Layer …" from the menu, or press the Shift + Ctrl + N key combination. In the "New Layer" dialog that appears, click the "OK" button.
Step 4
Create a teardrop-shaped selection. Use the Polygonal Lasso Tool. It can be activated using the button located on the toolbar. This tool creates a selection area in the shape of a polygon, i.e. an area bounded by line segments. Mark the contours of the selection by specifying several points that are the vertices of the polygon.
Step 5
Adjust the selection area. This is necessary in order to smooth out the boundaries of the polygonal shape of the selection. Select "Select", "Modify", "Smooth…" from the menu. In the "Smooth Selection" dialog that appears, in the "Sample Radius" field, enter a value of 2. Click the "OK" button. Select "Select", "Modify", "Feather …" from the menu, or press Alt + Ctrl + D. In the "Feather Selection" dialog in the "Feather Radius" field, enter a value of 1 or 2. Click "OK".
Step 6
Fill the selection with white. Set the foreground color to white. To do this, click on the square denoting this color located on the toolbar. In the dialog that appears, select a color. Click the "OK" button. Select the Paint Bucket Tool. Click with the mouse on a point located inside the selected area.
Step 7
Change the display style of the layer. Right-click on the line with the name of the layer created in step 3 located in the layers control panel. In the context menu, select the "Blending Options …" item. The "Layer Style" dialog will appear. On the "Blending Options" tab of the dialog, change the value of the "Fill Opacity" field to 0, in the "Blend Mode" list select "Normal". Activate the switch "Inner Shadow" by simultaneously switching to the corresponding tab. In the "Blend Mode" list, select "Multiply". Click on the rectangle on the right. Choose a blue color. In the "Opacity" field enter a value of 75. Activate the "Bevel And Emboss" tab. Set the Style to Inner Bevel and Technique to Smootch. Set the Depth, Size, Soften and two Opacity fields (from top to bottom) to 30, 40, 5, 85, 50. In the Gloss Contour control, select the Roling Slope - Descending ". Activate the "Contour" tab. In the Range box, enter 70. In the Contour control, select the Half Round icon. Click the "OK" button.
Step 8
Save the modified image. In the main application menu, click on the "File" and "Save for Web & Devices" items, or press the Alt + Shift + Ctrl + S keyboard shortcut. In the dialog that appears, select the format and compression options. Click the "Save" button. Select the save directory and file name. Click the "Save" button.
