The main difference between a netbook and a laptop is the lack of a DVD drive. If you don't have an external optical drive, you can install the operating system from almost any USB drive.
Preparing a partition on a flash card
You may need additional programs to create a bootable USB stick. Connect the USB drive to a Windows PC or laptop. Insert the bootable disc into your PC drive. If you have an image file of such a disk, use the Daemon Tools Lite program to work with it.
Open the Start menu and select Run. In the new window, enter the cmd command. Press the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + Enter. This will allow you to run Command Prompt as administrator. After starting the working window, enter the list disk command. Determine the number under which the desired USB drive is listed and type Select Disk "number".
Now enter the following commands in sequence, separating each one by pressing the Enter key:
clean (cleaning flash card partitions)
create partition primary
select partition 1 (select a new partition)
active (setting the label "active")
format fs = fat32 quick (fast format in fat32)
assign (connect a USB drive and get a partition letter)
exit
Create boot files
You now have a blank USB drive ready to write OS files. You need to create a boot sector from the installation disc. This procedure is performed by entering the following command: X: / Boot / bootsect.exe / NT60 Z:
Z: is the letter of the USB drive from which Windows Vista will be installed.
X: - the letter of the DVD or virtual image with the installation files.
Now, just copy the contents of the installation disc to your USB stick. Pay attention to the presence of hidden files and folders. If you do not want to carry out this procedure manually, type in the command line
xcopy X: Z: / s / e / h / k
Installing Windows Vista
Connect the USB drive to your netbook and turn on your mobile computer. Enter the BIOS menu. Set the boot priority from the desired flash card. This can usually be done in the Boot Options or Boot Device Priority menu. Sometimes it is enough to just press the F12 key at the initial stage of turning on the netbook. This will open the menu for quickly changing boot devices and select the desired flash card. Wait for the Windows Vista operating system setup program to start and follow the instructions on the screen.
Remember to return the hard drive to the top boot device list after the first reboot. Otherwise, the installation procedure will start over.
