Instructions

Step 1

The password can protect not only the login to the system, but also the exit from the standby mode. To set a password, open the Control Panel from the Start menu. In the "User Accounts" category, select the icon of the same name or the "Change account" task.

Step 2

In the window that opens, select the computer Administrator account. After the window is updated, left-click on the task "Create a password". In the first field of the form that appears, enter the password that will be requested each time the operating system boots.

Step 3

In the second field, enter the invented password again. Remember that this case is case sensitive. The third field is for password hints. If you do not need this, you can leave the field blank. Click on the "Create Password" button.

Step 4

The window updates and you are prompted to make your files and folders private. If you are the only user of the computer, this precaution will be superfluous. Click on the "No" button. Password creation is complete.

Step 5

When the computer is idle for a certain time, the screen goes blank. To take it out of this mode, you must press any key or move the mouse. If you want a password to be requested when the PC is taken out of this mode, call the "Properties: Display" component.

Step 6

On the Control Panel, select the Appearance and Themes category and the Display icon, or right-click anywhere on the desktop and select Properties from the drop-down menu.

Step 7

In the dialog box that opens, go to the "Screensaver" tab and set the marker in the "Password protection" field in the "Power Saving" group. Apply the new settings. This option will be effective only if any screen saver is selected on the computer.

Step 8

On the same tab, click on the "Power" button, a new window "Properties: Power Options" will open. Go to the "Advanced" tab in it and set the marker in the "Prompt for password when exiting standby" field. Click the Apply button and close the windows.
