The last official version of the MS-DOS disk operating system was released in 2000, but modern Windows distributions do not have this OS. If the partial imitation of DOS commands is sufficient to achieve your goals, then you can use the command line emulator, which is still in Windows.
Instructions
Step 1
To access the command line interface, you must first open the Windows Startup Dialog. This can be done by opening the main menu on the "Start" button (with the WIN key or with the mouse) and selecting the "Run" line in it. Alternatively, use the hotkeys WIN + R.
Step 2
In the dialog box, type the three-letter command - cmd. Then press the Enter key or click the "OK" button. This will open a command line interface terminal window.
Step 3
To find out which DOS commands are available to you in this emulator, type help and press Enter. The terminal window will print the command names and explanations.
Step 4
There is one more possibility to use the disk operating system - in modern versions of the OS it is still possible to create bootable MS-DOS floppies. With its help you can load DOS OS instead of Windows OS. If you have a floppy disk, and a floppy drive is installed in your computer, then you must first start the file manager (Explorer) in Windows OS. This is done by double-clicking on the "My Computer" icon or by pressing the keyboard shortcut CTRL + E.
Step 5
Then insert the floppy disk and in the explorer, right-click the disk drive icon. In the context menu, select the "Format" line.
Step 6
A window will open with the settings for this operation and the bottom line in it will be the inscription "Create a bootable MS-DOS disk". Check the checkbox next to it, and leave the rest of the settings unchanged. Then click the "Start" button to start the procedure.
Step 7
You now have a bootable diskette containing the disk operating system files. All that remains is to reboot the computer by setting the BIOS to boot from the floppy disk reader. By doing this, you will be able to work in the MS DOS environment.
