DOS is a real-time, online, single-tasking system. After loading, the system transfers control to the application program. Several different versions of DOS have been created, including MS DOS from Microsoft.
Instructions
Step 1
A computer that comes with a floppy drive can boot into MS-DOS by assigning it to boot from the A: drive (boot floppy disk). First you have to create this floppy disk.
Step 2
Turn on your computer. After Windows boots up, insert the floppy disk into your floppy drive and open the My Computer menu. By right-clicking on the "Disk 3, 5 (A)" icon, call the drop-down menu and select the "Format" command.
Step 3
Check the "Create MS-DOS Boot Disk" checkbox and click "Start" to start the process. After formatting is complete, the DOS system and command files will be created on the floppy disk.
Step 4
Floppy drives are usually not installed on modern computers. You can use a USB flash drive to boot into DOS. Download the utility for installing boot files on flash memory, for example, at
Step 5
Unpack the archive and run the hpusbfw.exe file. Select FAT32 from the File System list. Check the box next to Create a DOS start up disk. Click the browse button and specify the path to the unpacked DOS files. Click Start to start formatting
Step 6
Reboot your computer. After the initial polling of the hardware, an inscription will appear on the screen - the BIOS (Basic In / Out System) prompt in the settings: “Press Delete to setup”. A different key may be specified instead of Delete, depending on the BIOS manufacturer. This is usually F2, F9, or F10.
Step 7
In the settings menu, find the item that is responsible for the boot order of the operating system. Perhaps it's called Master Boot Record. This item lists the boot devices of the computer (FDD, CD-DVD-ROM, HDD, USB).
Step 8
Install the first bootable device (FDD or USB) using the control keys. Press F10 to save the configuration and exit the menu. Answer “Y” to the system's question. Insert a floppy disk into your floppy drive or connect a USB flash drive to the USB connector to boot your computer into DOS.
