If you use a proxy server directly on your computer, you can find out its IP address in the properties of the network connection. This address will act as the main gateway and will be indicated in the field of the same name. To launch the properties of the network connection, open the Windows 7 Network Center through the taskbar. Click on the connection and select "Properties". The TCP / IP properties will indicate the gateway through which the computer connects to the Internet.

If you get the proxy server address automatically, then the tracert command will help you. Run the command line utility from the start menu and type tracert [name of any external node] and press enter. The utility will display all hosts in ascending hierarchy up to the specified external one. As a rule, using the command line, you will receive more reliable and complete information about the proxy server that is available on your personal computer.

If you prefer anonymity on the Internet, check the quality of your intermediary using the sites https://www.leader.ru/secure/who.html, https://www.whatismyip.com, https://tulahelp.ru/ip and others. It is worth noting, however, that an active internet connection is required for verification.

A proxy server is necessary for organizing access of internal networks to the Internet, for temporary storage of frequently requested data (if the proxy has its own cache), for providing anonymity to users and protecting their computers from attacks on the external network.
