The microphone is connected to a personal computer through the jacks on the front or rear panel of the system unit or through the corresponding connector on the multimedia keyboard. On laptop computers, this connector is usually located on the side. In all cases, it is marked in pink. The volume level of the signal from the microphone input can be adjusted using the installed operating system.
Instructions
Step 1
If you are using Windows 7, then in the main menu on the "Start" button, select "Control Panel". When the system opens the panel, click on the "Sound" link and a component will be launched that contains settings for speakers, microphones and some other devices, divided into four groups (tabs).
Step 2
Click on the "Recording" tab - it contains icons of connected devices using microphones, as well as the line-out. Select the icon of the device you need, after which the three buttons at the bottom of this tab will become active ("Configure", "Properties" and "Default"). The "Configure" button has nothing to do with the microphone settings, as one might think, it refers to the speech recognition settings. And the settings you need are opened by clicking on the "Properties" button. These settings will open in a new window with five tabs.
Step 3
Go to the "Levels" tab, set the desired values in the controls placed there, and then click the "OK" buttons in all three open windows.
Step 4
If you have Windows XP installed, then you should also launch the control panel through the main menu on the "Start" button and select the "Sounds and Audio Devices" component. This will open a window with five tabs - click on "Audio". In the "Sound Recording" section, select the default device and click the "Volume" button.
Step 5
Set the slider in the "Microphone" section of the opened window to the desired value, and then close the open windows by clicking the "OK" buttons in them.
Step 6
There are also elements for adjusting microphone settings in the drivers of sound cards that are either independent or integrated into the motherboard. For example, if the Realtek HD driver is installed on your system, there should be a corresponding icon in the notification area on the taskbar. Double-clicking on it opens the Device Manager pane, where, on the Microphone tab, you need to adjust the settings for noise reduction and microphone spatial orientation. On the “Mixer” tab, in the “Recording” section, select a device in the drop-down list and set the required signal level from the microphone input.
