Modern software for playing digital video allows you to manipulate playback parameters (for example, sound volume) over a very wide range. However, sometimes this is not enough for a comfortable viewing. In this case, you can make the video louder by processing it in a video editor.
Necessary
- - video file;
- - VirtualDub 1.9.9 (available for download at virtualdub.org).
Instructions
Step 1
Upload the video to the VirtualDub editor. Use the hot keys Ctrl + O, or in the main menu, click on the "Open video file …" item in the "File" section. In the opened file dialog that appears, navigate to the required directory. In the catalog listing, select the video file. Click on the "Open" button.
Step 2
Activate the direct transfer mode of the video stream. Open the "Video" section of the main menu and check the "Direct stream copy" checkbox. This will avoid processing video frames while saving it, thereby increasing the overall processing speed many times and preventing image degradation.
Step 3
Enable full processing of the audio stream. In the main menu, expand the "Audio" item and check the "Full processing mode" item.
Step 4
Make your video louder. Open the "Audio volume" dialog by successively selecting the "Audio" and "Volume …" menu items. In the dialog, set the "Adjust volume of audio channels" switch to the active state. Then, by moving the slider located below to the right, select the required sound level relative to the original (the current value in decibels and percent is displayed to the right of the slider). Click the "OK" button.
Step 5
Find out the current characteristics of the audio data stream. Click on the items "Audio" and "Conversion …" or press Ctrl + N. Remember the sampling rate value given in parentheses after the "No change" label located in the "Sampling rate" control group.
Step 6
Adjust the encoding parameters of the audio stream. In the main menu, select the items "Audio" and "Compression…". In the "Select audio compression" dialog, select your preferred encoder in the left-hand list. The list of available encoding modes will be displayed in the list on the right. Select one of the modes with a sampling rate equal to the value obtained in the fifth step. Click the "OK" button.
Step 7
Save the video. Press F7 on your keyboard, or select "File" and "Save as AVI …" from the menu. Specify a name and path to save the file. Click on the "Save" button.
Step 8
Wait for the video to finish recording. If the amount of audio data is large enough, the process can take a long time. The elapsed and estimated save time will be displayed in the "VirtuaDub Status" dialog.
