Shortcuts to programs, system components, and documents on the desktop are used to provide quick access to files and applications. The appearance of these elements of the Windows graphical interface, like most of its other components, can be changed. If they seem too small for you, then the operating system has several ways to increase the size of the icons.
Instructions
Step 1
Click on the background image on the desktop with any mouse button if you need to increase the size of the shortcuts in Windows Vista or Windows 7. It is necessary to start the procedure with this step in order to transfer the system's focus to the desktop, and not to the program window, with which you worked before. Then press the ctrl key, and without releasing it, roll the mouse wheel away from you. Scrolling by each division will cause all desktop shortcuts to grow - pick the size that works best for you.
Step 2
Use an alternative way to resize shortcuts, which is also provided in these two versions of the operating system. It assumes the choice of one of the preset options for icon sizes. To access the list of options, right-click on the desktop background and open the "View" section in the pop-up context menu. The list has only three gradations - small, regular and large. Choose the option that best suits your needs.
Step 3
For Windows XP, start the procedure to enlarge the shortcuts by right-clicking on your desktop background. Select "Properties" in the context menu and the operating system will open the display settings window. The "Appearance" tab of this window contains the "Advanced" button, which you should click to gain access to the "Additional Appearance" window.
Step 4
Select the line "Icon" from the list that appears after clicking in the "Item" field. In the "Size" field, set the desired value for the width and height of the icons in pixels, and in the line below, change, if necessary, the font size of the caption under the label. Then close both open windows by clicking the "OK" buttons in each of them.
