For a successful reinstallation of the operating system, it is recommended to completely uninstall the previous version of it. The operation of removing the OS is also used when it is necessary to change the system hard disk.

Step 1
If you decide to install the operating system on a different hard drive or on a second partition of this drive, then uninstall the previous operating system (OS). This can be done both after installing a new OS, and during this process. Open the My Computer menu.
Step 2
If you want to completely clear this section, then right-click on it and select "Format". Select the file system of the partition to be formatted, specify the cluster size.
Step 3
In the event that you need to carry out a better cleaning of the contents, uncheck the "Quick (clear the table of contents)" checkbox. Click the "Start" button to start the formatting process.
Step 4
If you need to remove only the operating system, leaving all the other files, then open the list of directories and files of this hard disk. Highlight the following folders: Documents and Settings, ProgramData, Program Files, System Volume Information, Temp, User, Windows. Delete these directories by pressing the Del button. Perform the operation to delete all unnecessary files located in the root directory of this hard disk.
Step 5
Sometimes it is necessary to uninstall the Windows XP operating system when installing another OS. Start the Windows installation process. When the screen displays a list of existing hard drives and their partitions, format the desired drive.
Step 6
When installing the Windows XP operating system, select the partition on which the operating system is already installed, select "Format to NTFS" and press the F key. The new operating system will be installed on a formatted disk.
Step 7
If you are installing Windows Vista or Seven, then click the "Disk Setup" button. Highlight the required hard drive and click the "Format" button. In this case, you can proceed with the OS installation by selecting a different partition.
