In some unusual cases, it is necessary to shut down the computer using only the keyboard. This happens, for example, when a malfunction of the Windows operating system or a failure of the computer's hardware leads to the inoperability of the USB ports to which the mouse is connected, and there is no access to the system unit along with the power off button located on it.
Instructions
Step 1
Take advantage of the event duplication provided in the OS interface, which allows you to replace mouse clicks with pressing the corresponding buttons on the keyboard. In order to open the main menu on the "Start" button and access the function of shutting down the system and shutting down the computer, you can use any of the two win keys located in the bottom row to the right and left of the long space bar. Having opened the menu in this way, move to its bottom line by pressing the up arrow key. Then press the Enter key - this is the same as clicking on the bottom menu item ("Turn off computer"). In Windows Vista and Windows 7 this is enough, and in Windows XP this action brings up a dialog with three buttons on the screen, of which the middle one corresponds to shutting down the computer. To move the focus to it, press the right arrow key, and to simulate a click, press Enter, and the OS will begin the procedure for shutting down the computer.
Step 2
If the input focus is on the desktop, then a dialog box with three shutdown buttons can be called up by simply pressing the keyboard shortcut alt="Image" + F4. Then, as in the previous method, in Windows XP, you need to press the right arrow key to move from the "Standby" button to the "Shutdown" button and press the Enter key to start the procedure for saving the settings and shutting down.
Step 3
The shutdown command is also available in the Windows Task Manager menu. To launch it, press the key combination Ctrl + alt="Image" + Delete. To activate the menu of this program, press the Alt key, and in order to open the "Shutdown" section in it, use the "Ш" key. Please note that the Russian keyboard layout must be enabled. Then press the Down Arrow key twice to navigate to Shutdown and press Enter to initiate the shutdown process.
