You can work at the computer without the usual mouse. Some users get by with the keyboard, since only a small fraction of programs require a mouse or similar manipulator. If you need a certain skill to fully work at a computer using only the keyboard, then simple actions, such as shutting down or restarting, can be mastered in a few minutes.

Step 1
So, you need to restart your computer and the mouse is not working or missing at all. There are several ways to do this from the keyboard.
Step 2
Press the Windows key. It features the Windows logo and can be found at the bottom left of any keyboard.
Step 3
If your computer is running Windows XP, press the ↑ key and then the Enter key. In the dialog box that appears, use the "→" and "←" keys to activate the "Restart" button and press Enter.
Step 4
If your computer is running Windows 7 or Vista, press the Windows key, then “→” and Enter. If programs are currently running, the system will offer to terminate active processes.
Step 5
Use the "→" and "←" keys to activate the Force Shutdown button and press Enter. If no application is currently running, the computer will restart immediately.
Step 6
Another way to restart your computer from the keyboard is to invoke the Windows Task Manager. To do this, press the Ctrl + Alt + Delete key combination.

If you are running Windows XP, after pressing the combination, a dialog box will appear. Press F10, use the "→" key to activate the "Shutdown" menu item, and then use the "↓" key to select the "Restart" command and press Enter.
