On full-size standard keyboards, the keys are divided into several separate sections. The section on the far right contains the keys of the additional keyboard, which is also often called the numeric keypad. In laptop computers, to save space, this section is either combined with the main keyboard in an abbreviated version, or is completely eliminated, and its functions are transferred to other buttons. In laptop computers, how to enable the numeric keypad is not so obvious.
Instructions
Step 1
Try the most standard option - look for a button labeled Num Lock on your keyboard. As a rule, it is located in the upper left position of the key group of the numeric keypad. Pressing the key should turn on this group, if the NumLock indicator was not lit before, and otherwise, pressing it, on the contrary, turns off the numeric keypad. If your laptop model does not provide such a key, then go to the next step.
Step 2
Check to see if the numeric keypad is enabled by pressing fn + f11. Typically, this combination is used on laptop models that do not have a separate group of numeric keys. On their keyboards, these buttons are aligned with the letter keys in the main group. On such "multipurpose" buttons, additional designations are applied, which differ in their color from the marking of the main keyboard. Instead of the f11 key, some other function row key can be used to turn the number keys on and off.
Step 3
There is another non-standard way to turn on the numeric keypad for those cases when you cannot find the desired method - use the on-screen keyboard. This program from the standard set of Windows applications is called on the screen from the main menu, so open it and go to the "All Programs" section. In this section, go to the "Standard" subsection, then to the "Accessibility" section and select the "On-screen keyboard" item in it. You can also do without the main menu - press the win and r buttons at the same time, then type the osk command and press the enter key. In the interface that opens, find the key indicated by the letters nlk, and click it with the mouse - the numeric keypad will be activated.
