To work with tables in the Windows operating system, Excel is used, which is part of the Microsoft Office suite of applications. The utility has a wide functionality and allows you to perform not only the operations of adding and inserting data, but also sorting them by numerical value.
Instructions
Step 1
To select the maximum value in several lines or columns of the table, a special formula "MAX" is used. It sets the range of values from which the maximum number is selected and displayed in the corresponding line.
Step 2
Open the table you need in Excel by double-clicking on its file with the XLS extension. You can also create a new document by running the program through "Start" - "All Programs" - Microsoft Office - Microsoft Excel and select "Create" from the options offered. Enter the required values into the table and create a cell in which you will display the maximum value in the specified columns.
Step 3
Place the cursor in the created cell. After that, go to the formula bar, which is located above the table in the application window, and put the "=" sign. After that, click on the Fx icon, which is located to the left of this line.
Step 4
In the list of suggested features, click Static, and then find and select the MAX option. A window with the name "Function Arguments" will open, where you will need to specify the start and end values.
Step 5
Click on the field "Number 1" and specify the cells in which you will need to select the desired number. This can be done by clicking on the start and end cells with the left mouse button or by entering the names of these cells manually. If necessary, you can set additional sorting parameters. After making the settings, click "OK".
Step 6
If the numeric data was selected and entered correctly, the maximum value will appear in the desired cell. You can continue to work with the table or save changes to the file being edited.
