Instructions
Step 1
Switch to VirtualDub's video capture mode. Select "File" and "Capture AVI …" from the menu. After that, the bottom panel will disappear and the list of items in the main menu will change.
Step 2
Select a video capture device. Open the "Device" menu. Check the "Screen capture" box.
Step 3
Set up video capture from all over your desktop. Open the "Set custom video format" dialog. To do this, select "Video" and "Set custom format …" from the menu, or press Shift + F. In the dialog, set the "Use custom size" switch to active position. Enter the values of the current monitor resolution in the fields under the switch and click the "OK" button. The current resolution values can be found in the "Options" tab of the display properties dialog. To open it, you need to right-click on the desktop and select "Properties" from the menu.
Step 4
Disable audio recording. Open the "Audio" menu and uncheck the "Enable audio capture" checkbox.
Step 5
Set the frame rate of the captured video. Press the F9 key, or select "Capture", "Settings …" from the menu. In the "Capture Settings" dialog in the "Frame rate" field, enter the required value.
Step 6
Set up your video encoder. Open the "Video" menu, activate the "Compression" item, or simply press the "C" key. In the "Select video compression" dialog that appears, select your preferred video encoder. Click the "Configure" button and configure it.
Step 7
Specify the file to save the captured video. Select the menu items "File", "Set capture file …" or press F2. Specify the path and name to save the file. Click the "Save" button.
Step 8
Capture video from your screen. Press the F5 or F6 key, or select "Capture" and "Capture video" from the menus. Take the steps on your computer that should go into the video. Make the VirtualDub window active. Press the Escape key. Video recording will stop. There will be a file with the captured video on the disk.
