With the advent of a large number of various programs for working on the Internet, the procedure for finding and downloading files has become more complicated. Each utility loads the required documents into its own directory. To determine it, you will have to use the menu items of the application.

Instructions

Step 1

If you use any of the common browsers to download the file, all files will be saved to the Downloads directory of the system by default. To find the document you need, go to the "Start" section - your username - "Downloads". Most of the files downloaded by applications are saved in this directory.

Step 2

To change this folder to your own, use the appropriate settings item. For example, if you are using Google Chrome, go to the program options by clicking on the corresponding button to the right of the address bar of the upper browser bar. After that, select "Settings" - "Show advanced settings". In the list that appears in the "Downloads" section, specify your folder for saving data by clicking on the "Change" button opposite the line "Location of downloaded files". Changing the settings in other browsers is done in a similar way.

Step 3

You can also choose the folder for saving the files yourself. Click on the link to download the document you need. You will see a menu in which you will be asked to save or immediately open this file. If you click on the "Save" button, you will need to select a folder. Choose the most convenient save directory.

Step 4

If you are using any other program to download files, the location of the download directory can be found in the settings menu. Open your application to download documents and go to the "Service" - "Settings" or "Configuration" section. In the window that appears, find the item "Download" or "Folders" and click on it. In the next menu, you will see the sections that are responsible for defining the directory where the file is loaded. Go to the specified folder to find your lost document. In the same menu, you can change the location of the directory for saving, choosing the most convenient for you from the list.

Step 5

If you can't find the file you want, open your home folder and use the Windows search function by filling in the search bar in the upper right corner of the window and specifying the name of your file. Press Enter and wait for the end of the procedure. If the filename was correct, you will see it in the search results.
