The built-in speakers of your laptop do not convey bass well, and in public places they can be disturbing to those around you. With headphones, you can listen to high-quality music on your laptop in public.
Instructions
Step 1
Choose headphones equipped with a 3.5 mm (1/8 inch) stereo jack plug. If their plug is made to any other standard, use an adapter or, if you have the appropriate skills, replace it with a suitable one. Never connect a mono jack plug to the laptop. It will short-circuit the amplifier output of the right channel, which can lead to its failure.
Step 2
Emitter impedance is not a decisive factor when choosing headphones for a laptop. Unlike a player and a smartphone, the main consumer of energy in a laptop is by no means an amplifier, so the resistance of the headphones does not noticeably affect the duration of operation from one charge. However, if their resistance is too low (less than 16 ohms), one should be concerned about the safety of the amplifier itself. In this regard, use headphones with a radiator impedance of at least 32 Ohms with a laptop.
Step 3
Choose a headphone design. They are divided into ear-mounted and head-worn. Scientifically, they are called, respectively, ear and head phones (originally, not the entire telephone set was called "telephone", but its sound emitter, and in professional terminology this name has survived to this day). Ear phones are lighter, they can be carried in the same bag as the laptop itself, the ears are less tired from them, but the inner ear begins to hurt faster. With headsets, the situation is exactly the opposite. Avoid using headphones completely, which are equipped with special tubes that reach almost to the eardrum. They may sound good, but are hazardous to your hearing even at low volumes.
Step 4
Decide whether your headphones will be open, half open, or closed. Open headphones sound a little less quality, create an unpleasant "ringing" audible to those around them, devoid of bass, but allow the user to hear extraneous sounds. Closed phones, on the other hand, almost completely shield the user's hearing from the outside world, even when there is no signal. Semi-open headphones are an intermediate solution between open and closed. Closed-back headphones should not be used outdoors for safety reasons, and at work - because it can make it difficult to communicate with colleagues. But they are appropriate at home, if, for example, noisy neighbors bother you from listening to music.
Step 5
When choosing headphones, pay attention to a number of other aspects. Their cord should be of high quality, even if you know how to repair it yourself, since this operation will have to be performed less often. If you are uncomfortable with adjusting the volume on your laptop, choose a headphone with a cord control. Finally, since your laptop is sometimes powered from a non-grounded electrical outlet, use only headphones that do not contain conductive parts that may come into contact with your head or ears.
