Instructions

Step 1

Using the method of overclocking a video card, you run the risk of spoiling it, which can lead to the inoperability of the computer as a whole. An old-model GeForce FX 5-series video card is taken as an example: it costs little, but it will show us how to overclock it. Download to your computer and run the RivaTuner program (used to overclock the card). In the main window, we should see the name of our map and its parameters.

Step 2

In order to start overclocking, you need to track the behavior of the video card: click on the triangle icon under the name of the card - select "Monitoring". It is not advisable to close this window.

Step 3

In the main window, again press the triangle - select the item "System settings" (System tweaks). You will see a window in which you need to select the "Overclocking" tab. Check the box next to Enable driver-level overclocking.

Step 4

In the new window, check the box next to "Allow separate 2D / 3D clock frequency adjustment". Next, you should click on the "Definition" button (Detec now).

Step 5

Go back to the System tweaks window. In the right block of this window, select the item 3D. Now the basic procedure for overclocking a video card: set a new value for the "Core Clock" - increase it from 60 to 70 MHz - click the "OK" button.

Step 6

After changing the frequency, you need to find out the performance gain. This can be done using the ATI Tool tester program by pressing the Scan for Artifacts button.

Step 7

A strange image will appear in the window that opens. It is necessary to look at it and at the inscription under it. If the picture is without distortion and the inscription No errors for appears, then everything is fine. Otherwise, this card will not be suitable for overclocking, it will give errors, and the computer will often reboot.

Step 8

If all is well, then continue to increase, but only with a difference of a few units. As soon as you find your frequency of increase at which the video card will work stably, feel free to stop at this value.
