Using a removable storage medium, such as a memory card, is an easy way to store large amounts of data on a small device. Unfortunately, the convenience of a memory card is sometimes overshadowed by accidental damage that can destroy all stored data.
Instructions
Step 1
Insert the memory card into the appropriate port on your computer. Purchase an external card reader and connect it to your computer's USB port if there is no port for this type of card.
Step 2
Open the Start menu and then My Computer to display a list of devices connected to your computer. Select the drive that matches the memory card. Right-click on the disk and select Format from the context menu.
Step 3
Make sure that the File System parameter is set to NTFS in the window that appears. Leave the other options unchanged. Click the "Start" button and wait for the formatting to complete.
Step 4
Download and install the Recover My Files program. Launch the program and click the Manually Set Options link at the bottom of the screen. Click the Search tab and check the Search for Deleted Files checkbox.
Step 5
Click OK and then select the Complete Format Recover option. Click the Next button. Find the memory card drive in the center of the screen and click on it. Click Next again.
Step 6
Browse the list of file formats and select the format that matches the lost files on the memory card. Select Graphics if there were image files on the card, or Audio for music tracks. Select all types if there were files of different formats on the card.
Step 7
Click Next and then Start. Scroll through the list of files found by the program. Click on each file you want to restore and then the Save Files button.
Step 8
Select a folder on a memory card or computer hard drive in order to save the recovered files. Click on the Save button to finish recovering the lost data.
