"Screw" (derived from "Winchester") in computer jargon is usually called a hard disk - the main storage device. If this hard drive is not an external device in its own case, then it must be placed inside the system unit, connected to the power supply unit, motherboard and secured.
Instructions
Step 1
If it came to securing the hard drive to the computer chassis, then this means that you have already turned it off, unplugged the power cord and removed both side panels from the system unit. If any of this has not been done yet, do the skipped operation before proceeding to the next step.
Step 2
Find a free hard drive bay. In the case of system units of the most common type "Tower", such compartments are provided in two sizes - 3½ and 5¼ inches. The vast majority of hard drives have enclosures that correspond in their format to three-inch bays - carefully (so as not to accidentally disconnect the wires of other devices) place your hard drive in a free bay of this type. The slots for connecting to the power supply and the motherboard should face inside the case of the system unit.
Step 3
Align the threaded holes on the hard drive case and on the chassis of the system unit - there can be three such holes on the hard drive case on both sides, but you only need to align two of them. After that, screw the screws sequentially into each hole, securing the hard drive case to the chassis of the system unit. Do not tighten each screw to the end the first time, as the rigid fixation of one mount will not allow adjusting the alignment of the remaining holes, it is better to do this in two passes. This completes the procedure for securing the hard drive, and you can start connecting the power bus and data cable.
Step 4
If you are using a removable hard drive, then a "base" must be installed in the computer case, into which the portable hard drive is inserted. This base, usually called a "rack" or "sled", is installed in a five-inch bay, and a plastic cover is removed from the front panel of the system unit to provide access to the device. To fix a portable hard drive in such a rack, first lift the carrying handle on its case, which also serves as a lock. On some models, this lock can be designed as a separate lever. Then slide the hard drive case all the way into the rack slot on the front panel of the system unit and lower the locking handle. After that, the hard drive is ready to use.
