If you recently purchased a laptop, the first step is to adjust the power settings for proper battery use. This operation is performed directly in the Windows operating system, which has a set of integrated power management schemes. They help to properly distribute the load of the battery, depending on your preferences when using your laptop.
Instructions
Step 1
Adjust the basic settings for your laptop battery. To do this, go to the Start menu, then to Control Panel and go to the Power Options section. Take a look at the side tabs in the Power Options window for customizing power plans, battery alerts, going to sleep to save power, and more.
Step 2
Go to the "Power Schemes" tab. By default, the computer is configured to turn off the monitor and hard drive every 15 minutes of inactivity. You need to consider if this is right for you. It all depends on how long you will leave the workplace during the day. This will help preserve battery life and battery life for a longer period of time, so you certainly don't need to set this parameter to Never.
Step 3
Customize the tab for sound notifications that should notify you when the battery is low. For example, by default, the computer beeps when the charge drops to 13%, and automatically enters standby mode when it reaches 4%. Be sure to specify the parameters you need to avoid spontaneous shutdown of the laptop if you suddenly forget to charge it in time.
Step 4
Open the System Performance Tuning tab. Here you will see 3 options for power distribution: "Balanced", "High performance" and "Energy saving". Select the appropriate one depending on the intensity of laptop use. Also here you can set a couple of additional parameters to configure the power supply. If you want your computer to ask for a username and password when it exits the power saving mode, then you can fill in the appropriate fields. You can also change the power display icon on the taskbar so you can see how much battery power you have left.
Step 5
Choose what action the laptop should take when you close the lid: shut down or go to sleep. It also affects how quickly the battery will be charged. By default, this dives into standby mode, which keeps the device operational for a certain time, and it turns off only when you press the power button, but you can change this the way you want.
