There are several proven methods for removing an operating system from a hard drive. Most often, this process is used when installing a new version of the OS or when installing a new system hard drive.
It is necessary
- - Partition Manager;
- - Windows disk.
Instructions
Step 1
If you decide to update the operating system, and you need to remove the existing version of it, then do it during the installation of the new OS. Insert the Windows archives disc into the DVD drive and turn on the computer.
Step 2
Press the F8 key to open the device selection window. Highlight the desired DVD drive and press Enter. To start the process of installing the operating system, press any key after the message Press any key to boot from CD appears.
Step 3
Start installing the operating system in the usual way until the process comes to selecting a local disk. If you are installing Windows XP, then specify the hard disk or its partition on which the existing copy of the operating system is installed.
Step 4
In the next window, select the formatting to the desired file system. Press the F key to confirm formatting the partition.
Step 5
In the event that you are dealing with Windows 7 or Vista operating systems, click the "Disk Setup" button after a list of existing partitions appears.
Step 6
Select the hard disk or its partition on which the current version of the operating system is installed. Click the Format button. In standard mode, the program will format the volume in the same format in which it was previously.
Step 7
If you need to change the file system type of the volume, click the "Delete" button and confirm the deletion of this section. Now click the "Create" button. Enter the size of the future partition (it is equal to the size of the deleted volume) and select the type of its file system.
Step 8
If you need to remove an operating system without installing a new one, use the Partition Manager utility. Install the program and restart your computer. Start Partition Manager.
Step 9
Right-click on the desired section and select "Format". Set the cluster size and file system type for the future clean volume. Click the Apply Pending Changes button. The computer will continue to execute the process in DOS mode.
