The basic input / output system, or BIOS, provides the initial start-up of the computer. In addition, it is in it that the parameters of many devices are set - in particular, the user can choose a hard disk, flash drive or CD as the primary boot device.

Step 1
The need to change the default boot device usually occurs when installing Windows. If you do not set the corresponding value in the BIOS, the system simply will not see the CD inserted into the drive at startup, and the boot will occur from the hard drive or, if there is no OS on it, it will not occur at all.
Step 2
To enter the BIOS, after starting the computer, press the Del key (most often). But on different computers, the specific key used may differ. In particular, the following options are possible: Esc, F1, F2, F3, F10. In some cases, key combinations are used, such as: Ctrl + Alt + Esc, Ctrl + Alt + Ins, Ctrl + Alt + Del, Fn + F1. When the computer starts, a prompt may appear at the bottom of the screen - for example, Press Del to enter setup.
Step 3
If you successfully enter the BIOS, you will see a blue or gray window. After that, you need to find the line responsible for selecting the boot device. Since the BIOS options differ on different computers, it is difficult to pinpoint the exact location of this line. Therefore, just look through the tabs, you need to find the lines First boot and Second boot - that is, the primary boot device and the secondary.
Step 4
The current boot device is shown next to the First boot line. You can change it using the keys indicated at the bottom of the BIOS. Typically, the modification of values is carried out in the BIOS using the arrow keys (up and down) or Pg Up and Pg Down. After selecting the desired boot device from the list using the keys, save the changes. To do this, press F10 and select Yes in the window that appears, or enter Y and press Enter.
Step 5
Typically, a hard drive is used as the primary boot device. When installing Windows, you must set the BIOS to boot from CD in the BIOS, but immediately after the first automatic reboot, you must return the boot from the hard disk to the BIOS again. On many computers there is a convenient option for selecting the boot menu, we call it after starting the computer with the F8 or F12 key.
