Uniqueness is one of the main requirements for texts that are posted on Internet sites. It means that the article should not have exact counterparts in the vastness of the network. Non-unique, repetitive text is commonly called plagiarism.

It is necessary

  • - text editor
  • - program for checking text for plagiarism (Advego Plagiatus and EtxtAntiplagiarism)

Instructions

Step 1

If an article for an Internet resource is written by the author independently, "out of his head", then there is a high probability that it will be unique: there is very little chance that another person who wrote material on the same topic used identical speech patterns and expressed exactly the same thoughts that you are. But even under the condition of self-writing the text, stamps, stable turns can be found in the speech, and if there are too many of them, the uniqueness of the text will be much less. If materials from other Internet resources or printed sources are used, it becomes even more difficult to achieve a high uniqueness of the text: you need to carefully monitor to state the content of the article in your own words, without using the phrases of the original source. In any case, before you publish the finished article or send it to the customer, you need to make sure that its text is unique, i.e. does not contain plagiarism.

Step 2

The most famous programs for checking text for plagiarism are Advego Plagiatus and EtxtAntiplagiarism. They can be downloaded for free on the Internet and installed on your computer. If the customer specifies a specific program for which the check should be carried out, it is necessary to choose it, but if there are no special instructions, then you can use the one that you like more.

Step 3

The principle of working with both programs is approximately the same: you need to copy the text and paste it into the upper window of the program. Then find the button "Check uniqueness", and the program will automatically search for the correspondence of the checked text with other articles on the Internet. Remember that both programs will work correctly only if your computer is connected to the Internet.

Step 4

If the customer does not have any additional requirements, you can use the programs configured "by default". If there are additional instructions, then the settings will have to be changed. As a rule, you can use the "quick check" function, but to be completely sure that there is no plagiarism in your article, you can subject the text to a deep check by selecting the appropriate option on the panel

Step 5

After the check is complete, both programs will give out 2 values each: the percentage of copy-paste (plagiarism) and rewrite (semantic coincidence), and also indicate the addresses of the resources on which these matches occur. Pay special attention to the first value. If it is high enough, then the text can be considered unique. The second value can show the addresses of articles that could be used as sources for this material. Do not be surprised if it turns out that you did not even visit these pages when you were looking for information - this is quite possible and normal.

Step 6

The requirements for the uniqueness of the text on different resources are different. Of course, 100% uniqueness is an ideal indicator that every author should strive for, but it is not always possible to achieve it. Typically, a uniqueness score of 95% or more is considered very good and is accepted by most customers. Although the author's sites, which are not yet widely promoted, still prefer to publish articles with a uniqueness of at least 98%. On news resources, as well as on sites with a large number of articles, the requirements for uniqueness can be much softer - from 75%.
