The task of adding (opening) a port becomes necessary when it is impossible to identify the required program on the "Exceptions" tab of the Windows Firewall window. This action can be useful for active gamers to allow obtaining the necessary data for a multiplayer game.
Instructions
Step 1
Click the "Start" button to bring up the main menu of the Microsoft Windows operating system and go to the "Control Panel" item to check if you can allow the required program to establish communication through the Windows Firewall.

Select "Security" and expand the link "Windows Firewall".

Expand the Allow programs to run through Windows Firewall node in the left pane of the application window and enter the computer administrator password information in the corresponding field of the prompt window that opens.

Confirm your privileges by re-entering the password and apply the checkbox to the required application field.

Click OK to confirm the selected changes, or return to the "Allow programs to run through Windows Firewall" section if the required program cannot be identified.

Select the "Add port" option to perform the procedure for opening a new com-port and specify the desired port name in the corresponding field of the dialog box that opens.

Enter the value of the selected port number in the "Port" field and specify the required TCP or UDP protocol.

Click the Change Scope button and specify the required parameter if you want to change the number of computers using the selected port.

Click the OK button to apply the selected changes. Another method of performing the required operation is to call the main menu "Start" and go to the item "Control Panel".

Specify "Firewall" in the search box and select "Find".

Select Windows Firewall and expand the Advanced Settings link in the left pane of the application window.

Expand the Inbound Rules node on the left side of the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security dialog box and click New Rule.
