Usually, users don't really care about file size. But this question arises when there is not enough space on the media. For example, you want to burn an interesting movie to disc. But the writing program reports that the file is too large. Splitting it into parts is not the most convenient option, so the best solution is to reduce the weight of the avi, that is, reduce the video size to an acceptable value.
Instructions
Step 1
Determine the size of the source file. Right click on the AVI file and select the Properties menu. In the central part, on the General tab, you will see how much space in megabytes or gigabytes this file takes. This is necessary in order to know how much the video will have to be reduced. You can make the file smaller by degrading the quality of the picture, by reducing the frame size or removing unimportant parts of the video. For example, the program will slightly reduce the size by cropping the titles at the end of the film; in foreign films, they are usually very long.
Step 2
Download and install a video processing software. Such programs are called converters and are both paid and free. Open the browser with which you usually browse the Internet and go to https://www.freemake.com/en/free_video_converter/. This is a site for a free video converter with convenient controls and a Russian-language interface. If you don't trust free software, you can download Movavi Video Suite. The page address is as follows: https://www.movavi.ru/suite/download.html. Click the Download button and start downloading the installer.
Step 3
Run the downloaded file. Click the "Next" button in the installation wizard window. Repeat this step until you see a message indicating that the process completed successfully. If you want, you can change the default folder for the program along the way. Run the utility by double-clicking on the icon on the desktop if it does not open on its own.
Step 4
In the Free Video Converter window, click the Video button to add your file. The name of the video and its characteristics will appear in the central part of the program window. Click on the "To AVI" button on the ribbon at the bottom of the window. The processing parameters window will open, in which you can specify the location for saving the file, select the number of conversion stages and specify the final file size. Click on the text box with the current file size and enter the desired value. Acceptable reduction limits, that is, how much the program can reduce the weight of the avi, are displayed in the edit window.
Step 5
Click the "Convert" button and wait while the processing is in progress. After the message is ready, open the resulting file and check the result.
