If the clock in the tray on the desktop shows the wrong time or date, you can set the desired values using a specially designed component of the Windows operating system. It is imperative to do this, however, if after the next boot of the computer the clock will again significantly lag behind, before repeating the procedure, you will have to replace the battery installed on the motherboard.

Instructions

Step 1

Open the window for accessing the computer's date and time settings by double-clicking on the clock in the desktop tray.

Step 2

Set the correct year and month using the drop-down lists on the Date and Time tab. This tab opens in the default settings window.

Step 3

Click to select today's date in the weekday table below the month and year pick lists.

Step 4

Highlight the minutes in the Precise Time Setting field in the right-hand section ("Time") of this tab. Set the correct number of minutes using the navigation keys (up and down arrows), or by entering the desired numbers from the keyboard, or by clicking the arrows at the right edge of the input field. Set the correct number of hours and seconds in the same way.

Step 5

Go to the "Time zone" tab and select your time zone from the drop-down list. If you want the computer to automatically "move the clock hands" one hour forward or backward when switching to winter and summer time, check the box that says "Automatic change to summer time and back" at the bottom edge of the tab.

Step 6

If your computer is a member of a domain on a local network, then it is likely that its clock is synchronized with the time of the server of this domain. In this case, the Internet Time tab will not be available in the date and time properties settings pane. Otherwise, go to this tab to configure the synchronization of your computer's clock with the time of an accurate time server on the Internet.

Step 7

Check the corresponding checkbox at the top of the tab, and in the drop-down list below it, select one of the available time servers. You can enter from the keyboard the address of a server that is not in the list. If the computer is currently connected to the Internet, you can click the "Update Now" button to immediately synchronize the clock. This tab always contains an inscription about the server, date and time of the previous clock synchronization.

Step 8

To commit all the changes made to the settings and close the date and time properties panel, click the "OK" button.
