Some owners of video cameras that record information on magnetic tape would gladly copy the video to a computer hard drive. To carry out this procedure, it is necessary to use special equipment and software.

Instructions
Step 1
Most film cameras are connected to a personal computer using the IEEE1394 (FireWare) port. Unfortunately, not all desktop and mobile PCs are equipped with a suitable slot. If you encounter such a problem, purchase an expansion card.
Step 2
This equipment is connected to the PCI port of the computer motherboard. Install the board with IEEE1394 outputs. Turn on your PC and update the drivers for this device. Use the auto-install feature available in the Device Manager menu.
Step 3
Prepare your camcorder and computer for the copying process. As a rule, this process takes place in real time, i.e. the camera plays back the recording and transmits the video signal to the computer. Charge the battery of the video capture device.
Step 4
Download the drivers from the website of the manufacturer of this camera that are necessary for communicating the device with a computer via the IEEE1394 port. Connect your camcorder to your PC and install the files you want. Disconnect the hardware from the computer.
Step 5
Turn off all third-party programs and disconnect the internet connection. Additional load on the personal computer may result in the video being copied incorrectly.
Step 6
Reconnect the camera to your computer. When working with Windows Vista and Seven, you will immediately be prompted to copy the contents of the cassette to your hard drive. Confirm the start of this process. Connect the charger to the camcorder. This will prevent the equipment from turning off during copying.
Step 7
After completing the video transfer, convert the resulting file format. This will allow you to later view the video using various external players.
