The desktop background can be a digital image from your personal collection or the one shipped with Windows, a solid color, or a color-framed image. Step 1
Microsoft Windows XP:
Right-click on any place on the desktop that is free of shortcuts and select "Properties" in the context menu that opens. Or open Control Panel and select Display.
Step 2
In the "Properties: Display" window that opens, go to the "Desktop" tab. Here you can choose a wallpaper from the list presented (these are files located in the Windows folder) or upload your own. To select your wallpaper, click the "Browse" button and using the standard file open dialog select the one containing the desired image.
Step 3
Now you can choose how the image will be positioned on the screen. If it does not cover the entire area of the desktop, then it can be stretched, paved, centered, etc. If you do not want to use any picture, but want the desktop to be filled with one color, then in the "Wallpaper" window select " and set the background color of the desktop.
Step 4
Microsoft Windows 7:
Right-click on any place on the desktop that is free of shortcuts and select "Personalization" in the context menu that opens. Or open Control Panel and select Personalization.
Step 5
Here you can choose one of the ready-made themes, or create your own.
Step 6
To change only the desktop background, click on the "Desktop Background" line at the bottom of the window. In the window that opens, you can select the image and the way it is displayed on the desktop or the background color. All of these can be found in the Image Location drop-down list or by clicking the Browse button. To complete the changes, click "Save Changes" if they suit you, or "Cancel" if not.
