The Windows registry is a repository of literally every possible setting, every program and application, every file and system document. To edit it, a standard hidden tool called the Registry Editor is used.
Instructions
Step 1
Registry Editor is a powerful tool that can change the policies and options for accessing various parts of the Windows operating system and installed programs. There are many ways to start the registry.
If you are using Windows XP or Windows Server 2003, select the Start icon on the desktop, Run and type “regedit.exe” (without the quotes).
In Windows Vista / 7 also select "Start", in the search box located at the bottom, enter the word "run" or "run" (without quotes), run the program that appears and enter "regedit" (all also without quotes).
You can also start the Run application window by simultaneously pressing the "Win" + "R" keys, where "Win" is the key with the flag - the Windows logo, located next to the "Alt" and "space" keys. It is in this window that you need to enter “regedit” or “regedit.exe”. After that, you need to click the "OK" button.
Step 2
The registry editor will open in front of you. Its left side contains a structured tree with drop-down substructures, and its right side displays the properties of the selected structure items. All these properties can be edited, and items can be deleted.
