The Windows registry is a database that contains settings and settings for your computer's software and hardware, as well as presets and user profiles. All changes in the OS Control Panel, file associations, system policies, list of installed software, etc. are recorded in the registry. To make any changes to it, use a special program - the registry editor. But this program is not in the main menu of the OS, how can I start it?
Instructions
Step 1
The operating system registry is not a file on your computer's disk, but rather a virtual entity. Each time the computer boots, the OS recreates the registry, reading information from different files, so it is impossible to edit it with any standard editor. For this, Windows has a special program - Registry Editor. Its purpose is to view and make changes to the system registry, as well as to save and restore backups of the entire registry or its individual "hives". The left pane of the editor displays the sections as folders, and the right pane displays the options that belong to the selected section. Changes made using the editor are immediately written to files, there is no separate button "Save changes" or at least "OK" as in other dialogs for configuring Windows settings. Therefore, in order to change something in the register, you must be absolutely sure of the correctness of your actions.
Step 2
The configuration editor file Regedit.exe is stored in the WINDOWS folder of your operating system. You can find it in Explorer and run it from there as a normal program. But by default, access to system folders is denied and system files are not displayed. It is not necessary to change these settings just to run Registry Editor. You can first select the "Run" item in the main menu (on the "Start" button) (or just press the WIN + R key combination), and in the "Run Program" window that opens, type "regedit" (without quotes) and click "OK" (or the Enter key). This command will launch the Registry Editor.
