A network card, also known as a network card and network adapter, allows a computer to communicate with other devices on a network. A network card needs a wired connection to work - if not, the card is useless. In this case, it can be disabled.

Step 1
The presence of an included network card is easy to judge by the icon in the system tray in the form of two monitors. If there is an access to the network, the icon is gray (in case of inactivity) or blue. If the power cord is not connected, the tray icon is red.
Step 2
Many users use USB modems to access the Internet. In this case, the network card turns out to be superfluous, so it should be disabled. To disable it, open: "Start" - "Control Panel" - "System" or right-click the "My Computer" icon on the desktop and select "Properties" from the context menu.
Step 3
Go to the Hardware tab, click the Device Manager button. In the "Network cards" section, select the device you are interested in and double-click on it with the mouse. In the window that opens, at its bottom, in the device usage drop-down list, select "This device is not in use (disabled)". Click OK. The network card icon will immediately disappear from the tray. If you need to turn the network card back on, open its properties and select "This device is in use (turned on)".
Step 4
The onboard NIC can be disabled via BIOS settings. To do this, when starting the computer, press Del, F2, F10 or Esc, the specific option depends on the computer model. Find information about integrated devices, usually the line Integrated Device. Find the OnBoard Lan device and turn it off by selecting the Disabled option in the options. Save your changes by choosing Save and exit setup. When prompted for confirmation, press Y followed by Enter.
Step 5
Remember that the network card needs a driver to function properly. If the card is marked with a yellow icon in Device Manager, then the reason for its inoperability is most likely the lack of a driver. It can be found on the Internet, to do this, enter the exact name of your network card in the search box and add "driver download". After downloading the driver, right-click the line with the map in the Device Manager and select "Update driver".
