Almost all modern computers are equipped with a built-in Ethernet network adapter (more commonly referred to as a "network card"). But sometimes it still becomes necessary to install an additional adapter - to expand the local network or due to the failure of the built-in network card.

Necessary

Computer, network adapter, medium non-magnetic curly screwdriver, installation disc with software for the adapter

Instructions

Step 1

If you are installing a PCMCIA network adapter in a laptop, be sure to disconnect it. Wait until your computer shuts down. Then remove the PCMCIA slot cover and install the adapter into it. Turn on your computer and wait until the operating system finishes loading. Insert the installation disc into your computer drive. The computer will automatically install the necessary software. If not, run the setup wizard from the installation disc.

Step 2

When installing a PCI and PCI-E network adapter into the computer's system unit, turn off the computer, disconnect the power cord from the power supply, and remove the left cover of the system unit. Find a free slot and remove the cover in the housing opposite it.

Step 3

Place the network adapter in the slot and secure it with the screw to the computer. Close the computer case and reconnect the power cord. After that, install the software in the same way as described in the previous paragraph.
