Personal computers are now replacing multimedia entertainment centers and a study. Increasingly large hard drives allow the accumulation of a huge number of different files and folders. And how difficult it is sometimes to find the required file in all this kaleidoscope of documents, music and pictures. It is no longer possible to simply scroll through the folders, because there are more than one hundred of them.
Instructions
Step 1
This is where Windows Search comes in. It runs directly from the Start menu - in Windows XP it is the Search item, in Windows Vista and 7 - the Find files and folders line. You can also start the search by pressing the keyboard shortcut "Win" + F.
Step 2
Windows XP: In the left pane of the search window, you need to set the parameters that will be used to calculate the desired file or folder. If you are looking for multimedia, select Pictures, Music and Videos. To search for documents, including Microsoft Office, you need to select the "Documents" section. If you do not know the file extension, select "Files and folders." In the "Part of the file name or the whole file name" window, enter the name of the file you are looking for, and in the "Search in" select the hard disk or flash drive on which the search is performed. You can also search the entire computer by selecting "My Computer". After setting up the search, proceed to it by clicking "Find".
Step 3
Windows 7: In the search box in the upper right corner, enter the name or part of the file / folder name. By clicking once with the left mouse button on the field to enter the word you are looking for, you will see several settings: View - the format of the searched file (contact, document, music, folder, game, video, etc.);
Date of change;
Type - possible extensions of the searched file;
Size. After setting and entering text, press “Enter” and watch the search results appear in the main window.
