If the labels of the shortcuts on the desktop of the Windows operating system constantly have a one-color background fill and look as if the shortcuts are constantly highlighted, then the reason for this may be hidden in the wrong OS settings. There are several such settings in the system that can affect the lack of transparency of the background of the inscriptions.
Instructions
Step 1
Launch the "System Properties" component of your operating system - right-click on the "My Computer" shortcut on the desktop and select "Properties" from the context menu. An alternative way to launch this component is to use the win + pause hotkey combination.
Step 2
Click the Options button located on the Advanced tab in the component window. There are several buttons with this inscription - you need the one that is located in the "Performance" section.
Step 3
Check the box next to "Special effects" if this setting is not already checked. In the list of effects, located below, find and put a mark in the checkbox of the line "Casting shadows with icons on the desktop." Click the "OK" button to commit your changes.
Step 4
If in this way it is not possible to remove the background under the labels of the shortcuts, then when using Windows XP, you can select the "Properties" item in the context menu that appears after right-clicking on the desktop space free of shortcuts.
Step 5
Open the Desktop Elements window by clicking the Customize Desktop button on the Desktop tab.
Step 6
Go to the "Web" tab of the window that opens and uncheck the box next to the inscription "Freeze desktop elements". After that, uncheck all the checkboxes of the list below the "Web Pages" label.
Step 7
Click the "OK" buttons in both open windows with settings for display properties to commit the changes.
Step 8
Make sure the system is not using high contrast mode if the background fill under the label labels is still present. The corresponding setting can be accessed through the control panel - a link to it is placed in the main Windows menu on the "Start" button. After launching the panel, click the inscription "Accessibility".
Step 9
Click on the "Adjust text contrast and screen color" link located in the "Select a task" section. Then uncheck the box next to High Contrast and commit the changes by clicking OK.
