Reinstallation of Windows XP on Windows 7 can be done using a disk or flash card, which writes the desired system image, presented in ISO format. After that, all data on the computer is deleted and the new system is installed on the system disk, followed by configuration.
System image capture
Download the system image from the Internet or use the original Windows disc if you purchased it from a store. Downloading the image can be done from the official Microsoft website. There you can also make a purchase of a serial number for subsequent activation of the system.
To burn a disc image, you need to install a burning program. Among the most popular programs of this type are UltraISO or WinToFlash. The first program allows you to record an image both to disks and to other removable media. The WinToFlash utility allows you to write the system to a USB flash drive only. Download or install the selected program, and then launch it using the appropriate shortcut on the desktop.
Before installing a new system, save all valuable data on a separate removable media or another computer, as all information will be erased during the installation process.
Specify the path to the image file in the program using the appropriate menu item. Select "Burn" to start unpacking the files for the Windows installation. Be sure to insert the recording media into the appropriate slot of your computer before burning. After completing the burn, make sure that all your data has been saved and that the burn operation has occurred without errors.
In UltraISO, to write an image to a USB flash drive, use the "Burn hard disk image" item.
Installing the system
To reinstall the system, restart your computer. When the computer starts, press the F2 key (F4 or F5, depending on the BIOS version) to bring up the computer's boot menu control. Go to the Boot - First Boot Device section to select the boot mode from a USB flash drive or disk. In this line, select the name of your flash drive (drive) and save the changes by pressing the F10 button and entering Y to confirm saving the data.
If the disc burning was completed successfully, after starting the computer you will see the Windows 7 installation menu. Follow the instructions on the screen to select the hard disk partition on which you want to install the system. If necessary, format each partition using the buttons indicated in the setup menu. Formatting will get rid of traces of the past Windows XP operating system.
Wait until the partitioning of the disk is finished, the installation files are unpacked and the computer is restarted, and then remove your disk from the floppy drive or a USB flash drive from the USB port. The system installation will continue and you will need to provide additional data (system time, username, new password, etc.). After completing the configuration and installation, the computer will reboot again and you will see the new system window. The Windows 7 installation procedure is now complete and you can start configuring the required software.
