Snapshots are one of the tools for customizing the Windows shell. They are grouped in the "Management Console" (MMC - Microsoft Management Console) and are used to administer the computer. The Management Console is useful for editing the registry.
Instructions
Step 1
To add the snap-in to the MMC, you need administrator rights. From the Start menu, choose Run and type mmc at the command line. Click OK to confirm. The control window appears. Open the Console menu and use the Add or Remove Snap-in option. To invoke this command, you can use the combination Ctrl + M. Click "Add" and select the required snap-in from the list

Activate it by double clicking. If this snap-in can be used to remotely control another computer, a prompt window appears asking you to choose the type of control - local or remote. Set the radio button to the desired position.

If you are going to use this tool for remote management, click Browse. In the new window, select the network environment where the management object is located and its network name. Click to confirm "Finish". If necessary, select the following rig. Then close the list and click OK

If a snap-in is not listed, you must install the program that the tool administers. In Control Panel, expand the Add / Remove Programs node and select Add Programs or Add Windows Components from the list.
Step 5
The configured console can be saved to the hard disk. From the Console menu, use the Save As … command and enter a name. By default, MMC is written to the C: Document and Settings folder Current user Main menu Programs Administration. To open this console with one click of the mouse, from the "Start" menu select "Programs" and "Administrative Tools".
Step 6
The Windows registry has a tree structure. The child snap-in nodes are called parent node extensions. For example, the User Configuration snap-in has the following extensions: - Program configuration - Windows configuration - Administrative templates.
Step 7
You can add snap-in extensions to MMC. On the saved console, right-click and select "Author". From the Console menu, click the Add and Remove Snap-in command and check the item you want to extend. Go to the "Extensions" tab. By default, the checkbox next to Add All Extensions is checked. If you want to install only selected extensions, uncheck it and check the necessary items.
