Certain critical files related to the Windows operating system have additional "Hidden" or "System" attributes. This helps protect some files from accidental deletion or modification.
Instructions
Step 1
To access the files you need through standard Windows Explorer, you need to change the object display settings. Open the Start menu by pressing the appropriate button on your keyboard. Go to your PC control panel.
Step 2
If you are using the classic view of this menu, select "Folder Options". Otherwise, first open the Appearance and Themes submenu. Now select the item you want. In addition, the described menu can be accessed through Windows Explorer. Open the My Computer menu, expand the Tools tab and select Folder Options.
Step 3
In the window that appears, select the "View" tab. Scroll down the list that appears. Check the box next to Show hidden and system files. Click the Ok button.
Step 4
For Windows Vista, open Control Panel and select Appearance and Personalization. Open Folder Options and select the Show tab. Find and activate the item described in the previous step. Click the Ok button and close the dialog menu.
Step 5
In Windows Seven, open the Appearance and Personalization menu. A link to it is present in the computer control panel. Now open the "Folder Options" item. Open the "View" tab and scroll down the list in the "Advanced options" column.
Step 6
Check the box next to Show hidden files, folders and drives. Click the "Apply" and Ok buttons. Close the preferences window.
Step 7
It is worth noting that there are special file managers that initially display hidden and system objects. If you do not want to constantly switch this mode in Windows Explorer, install the Total Commander program. In this case, it is better to use the free version of this utility or its equivalent - Unreal Commander.
