There are hidden files on the hard disk of the computer that the operating system works with, but the user does not see them due to the corresponding settings. However, if necessary, you can set the display mode for hidden files and folders in a few minutes.

Instructions

Step 1

Click the Start button on your keyboard or in the lower left corner of your desktop. Select "Control Panel" from the menu - a new window will open. If the control panel is displayed by category, select the "Appearance and Themes" section and click on the "Folder Options" icon. If the panel has a classic look, select the "Folder Options" icon right away.

Step 2

Alternatively, open any folder on your computer. In the top menu bar, select the "Tools" item and the "Folder Options" sub-item. A new dialog box will open. Make sure you are on the "View" tab.

Step 3

In the Advanced Options section, navigate down the list of commands until you see the Hidden Files and Folders folder. Mark the sub-item "Show hidden files and folders" with a marker. Click the "Apply" button and close the window by clicking on the [X] icon in the upper right corner of the window or the OK button.

Step 4

Now all hidden files and folders will be visible to the user, but their icons will be transparent. If this is enough for you, the task can be considered completed. However, you might want certain files and folders to look familiar.

Step 5

Attributes are responsible for the appearance of files and folders. "Transparent" files are assigned the "Hidden" attribute. To make a hidden file normal, right-click on its icon and select the "Properties" command from the context menu. A new dialog box will open.

Step 6

Make sure you are on the General tab and take a look at the last section, Attributes. Remove the marker from the "Hidden" field, apply the new settings and close the properties window with the OK button.

Step 7

Using the described actions, but only in reverse order, you can make files invisible again: first assign the "Hidden" attribute to the file or folder, and then set the "Do not show hidden files and folders" command in the folder properties. Apply the new settings and close the properties window.
